I'm sure you've heard that the government is shutdown... I don't talk about my job on here, but it probably isn't a huge surprise that I am a government worker since I work in DC. When I woke up yesterday morning (at 4am thanks to Ms. Nova) and saw we were shutdown, I couldn't fall back asleep. I knew I had to go in for four hours so I laid in bed checking stuff on my phone until my alarm went off at 4:50. I headed in at my usual time and was the first one in the office... which also made me the first to leave before 11am.
I am not one to sit around and mope about things so I have decided to make the most of my time off. Who knows how long this will last and at least the weather has been amazing, right? My girlfriend texted me yesterday morning asking me if I wanted to do something in the afternoon since she knew I would be home and she was off work at 1. We made plans to go kayaking in the lake behind my house. No use sitting around, right?
We kayaked for a good 2 hours and caught each other up on our lives. We saw two bald eagles while we were out, which was pretty awesome to see! I saw one the last time I'd gone out but honestly, it doesn't get old. I tried to snap a photo but I only had my phone and the zoom isn't great. So enjoy this photo instead.
We grilled steaks for dinner and then went out for ice cream to celebrate my friend's birthday. This morning I checked the website to see if I was off again. I was. I slept in a bit (the dogs woke me up at 7:30 but it is still sleeping in compared to my regular 5am wake up) and then go ready to make the most of my day. I made breakfast and then headed out on my bike. I had no real plan for how long I wanted to ride but I had an idea of where I wanted to go. I decided to go a little out of my comfort zone and ride out some country roads. I was SO glad I did. I had a blast! My legs are definitely feeling it though.
I rode over to the park on paved trails and then out through the country. There weren't many cars out, which was nice and the weather was perfect! It was right around 80 degrees but the humidity was low.
I did run a half marathon a couple weeks ago and I started to write up a report but got side tracked. Maybe I'll finish it tomorrow if I'm still off work. I also have a 15k race this Saturday. Hopefully my funemployment doesn't wreck my legs before then!
And with that, I'll leave you with a sweet photo of my puppies getting along and chewing on a toy together. This rarely happens because Nova is such an alpha dog and doesn't usually let Delilah chew on toys. It was also a miracle I caught it on camera!
*I don't have an exact distance because I stopped my garmin a few times to take photos and forgot to turn if back in right away twice
